The holiday cottage is within a short walking distance of Penrith, a pretty market town, 6 miles from Lake Ullswater and 18 miles from both Keswick and Carlisle, the closest city.

There are numerous local walks and good eating places.

Apart from the magic and beauty of the Lake District, the area is steeped in history. This is Wordsworth country. The Romans marched north, Hadrian building his wall just north of Carlisle. The Jacobites marched south with Bonny Prince Charlie, who stayed in Penrith.

Two Neolithic Henges are on the outskirts of the village.

Lowther Horse trials , Potfest, and Appleby Horse Fair are big attractions for the area.


Directions to reach the cottage by car

Leave the M6 at Junction 40. Travel east on the A66 to the first roundabout. Take the fourth exit signposted A6 to Shap. Travel down the hill and over the bridge. Look out for the first white cottage on the right just past the bridge. Turn down the narrow lane on the further side of the cottage. There is a place to park by the wall near the owners' garage

To reach the cottage by public transport

Eamont Bridge can be reached by public transport. There is a good service to Penrith Station and there are taxis available from the station. Penrith bus station serves a large area including buses to Kendal, Keswick, Patterdale and Carlisle. See the local government travel site for full details.
